A volatile month for Malaysia equity market. Fortunately, system managed to take advantage of market condition and make a profit. System did 12 trades, including pre-election a short, which turned out to be a big loser. Anyhow, 9/12 is the win lose ratio. Below are the results:-

i short b4 election and still haven't cut loss now. alrdy roll to jun. i think market will come down now, look at fri dow jones also tumble like sh1t. looks like not cutting loss this time is the right decision.
ReplyDeleteJohnson, thanks for the sharing. Wish you good luck.
ReplyDeleteHey dude, is that result similar to the back tested results for year 2010 and 2011 ? Coz I find that your trading result is amazing for a system trader. I'm wondering if this year is coincidentally more suitable for your short term system.
ReplyDeletehey dude, i find that your result is amazing for a system trader.. just wondering if this year's result is similar to the one tested for year 2010 and 2011 ?
ReplyDeletekeep it up !
Thanks Zac.
ReplyDeleteIf compare in terms of return on capital, for period from Jan-May, the results are not different by much for year 2010-2013. I would say system is performing normal so far this year.
How's your trading so far this year?
this year is not good but i still have 6 more months to go. i'm optimistic :)
ReplyDeleteOnly 5 months passed, still another 7 months to go.
ReplyDeleteJust to share. I remember in 2011, one of my trend following programs. I lost 50% in the first 7 months. I was prepared to surrender if "circuit breaker" trigger me to stop trading. So I continued trading the system. It didn't let me down, I made a comeback since Aug that year and ended up with 17% profit at the end of the year for that particular system.
Cheers.
that was impressive. what is your maximum drawdown allowed? 60% ?
ReplyDeleteand if you don't mind ,based on your back tested results, which type of system generates a higher return? Trend following or your current short term style?
Dear Zac,
ReplyDeleteImpressive? Not at all, many friends did managed to beat my results in terms of % profit that year.
Maximum drawdown is 70%, based of daily settlement price.
I cannot conclude whether short term or long term trend following generate higher return, nor I prefer one over another. I still trade both now.
I started as a Long Term player but annoyed by many extended drawdowns. Since 2011, I looked for ways to smooth my equity curve. I discovered a niche in Short Term Trading, then spent the rest of the year researched and developed systems that can complement my Long Term Systems. Started trading Short Term Systems with real $$ in 2012. I would say, so far, it works.
Do you system trade or discretionary, long term or short term?
you mentioned max drawdown is 70% but you were ready to surrender when drawdown only 50%. Still another 20%, still can tahan quite long, rite?
ReplyDeleterisking 50% to make only 17% is not good in terms of risk/reward.
i guess your short term trading is better, based on this year results.
Dear Kevin,
ReplyDeleteYes, maximum allowable drawdown is 70%. But system has other criteria/rules that will trigger account to stop trading.
Indeed not a good risk/reward ratio.
Solely based on 2013, yes.
Thanks for comment.
